Fog Banner Lab

Three fog representations over the same sea render, in full colour. Each one is lit by the sun in the photo, drifts in layers at different speeds, and carries film grain in the fog only. Each one thickens at the bottom until it becomes the page paper, then spills past the photo at the sides. A depth mask keeps the sheep in front of the fog behind it. Sheets lead for the Hearth, for now. Volume and height fog stay for comparison.

B · Sheets (lead). Five flat parallax cards of warped 2D noise, composited far to near. They have silver rims where a card thins toward the sun. Cards behind the sheep stop at its silhouette.
A black sheep wears a wolf skull and pale feather cloak, holding a toy rabbit beside a dark sea under rain clouds.
A · Volume. A shallow slab of 3D noise, marched through 20 depth slices, with transmittance, forward scattering and self-shadowing. Slices behind the sheep stop at its silhouette.
C · Height fog. Analytic exponential height fog over a ground plane rebuilt from the horizon. It scatters the blurred photo's own light. On the sheep the ray stops where the sheep stands, so it rises in front of the glow.
